Moving to a New 4000 sq ft Production Facility
/After a successful few years of production, we are thrilled to announce that we have set up our own manufacturing facility here in South Devon!
Here are a few words from our Director, Paddy, to tell you more…
The biggest frustration for me as founder of OmniPods and Cabins, has always been the fact that we had to rely on third party manufacturers. I was making promises to clients based on promises made to me by my manufacturers, and when those promises were broken, I feared that my integrity and that of Omni could be questioned. So I decided that we absolutely had to have control over our own manufacturing to offer the best service and flexibility, and most importantly, to be able to keep the promises to our clients.
At the beginning of September, we tested the business model in a friend’s farm yard, where he very kindly allowed us to erect a canopy under which we built our first four units, with a new four man team – Two of whom have vast experience in modular building, one of whom worked in the boat building industry, and one of my sons, who is chief “apprentice” learning the business!
We have now moved into a “proper” almost 4,000 sq ft building which actually has four solid walls and a roof!
It’s been a steep learning curve, which I expected, and I knew it would present challenges, but I have to admit, I never considered how many extra hours it would add to my work day, and definitely more sleepless nights than I would choose, but wow, I feel so good having made that (at the time, HUGE) step, knowing that we are in complete control of our design and production, and can offer flexibility that our clients require. We have increased our production capacity considerably and can now offer shorter lead times than the industry standard. I am so energised by this, and can’t wait to build on these small steps on the road ahead!
